Jan 31 was the last day of my two-year stint in Singapore. I’ve had a great time here and the APAC team is fantastic. They (we!) are good at what we do and I will very much miss this group of people.
Julie flat out didn’t want to go (and I kind of didn’t either). However, the perfect job came along, so we’ll be heading to the Fremont mothership in March where I will join the product team.
I’m migrating to the Cloud where I’ll be working under Ashley Kramer (Of Tableau Conference keynote fame) as a Product Manager. I’ll help drive Tableau’s continuing progress against the goal of being the best cloud-based analytics platform out there.
This is an almost-custom-made-it-seems-so-perfect gig for me as I’ll be focusing on the “big three” public cloud providers as well as partners who are part of those ecosystems. Its a space I love, and as Mark Walhberg (of Rockstar fame) said:
You know, I’m just a regular guy who grew up with the posters of these guys on my wall… and now I’m one of them! That’s right, I’m standing here, living proof that if you work hard enough, and you want it bad enough… dreams do come true. So follow your dreams…
(My histronic personality disorder kicks in)
Ashley’s team is small, smart, and they’re all misanthropes (sorry, it’s true). It’s going to be like a 40+ hour game of Cards Against Humanity every week, and I can’t wait.
Before we head back, Julie and I have been taking some time off. We spent 8 days on an island off the coast of Cambodia where they actually have filmed Survivor a couple of times. 2G internet if you stood in the right place. Bucket showers and toilets. A rat named Scabbers who kept stealing our bar of soap. Lots of beer. It was a great way to unwind.
Now we’re back in Ubud for a third time. Warm showers, electricity, 4G internet. I’ll be doing some blogging over the next 2-3 weeks from right here as we continue to chill:
YAAYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congrats! Enjoy the R&R.
Welcome back! Lets grab lunch soon!
