Tableau Desktop 8’s ability to do performance recording is very cool. Did you know you can do the same thing in Tableau Server? You can. How? Here’s how:
First, enable the option to record information on the site you’ll be working in:
Run the report you want to test and add the :metrics_enabled=yes parameter pair to the URL (Edit: Thanks to a sharp-eyed reader who noticed that this value has changed in the “gold” version of the product…you’ll want to use :record_performance=yes instead )

Next, filter, sort, and drill to your heart’s delight. When you’re through, click View Metrics on the Toolbar:
Voila! A beautiful Performance Summary appears.
